In the Northern Hemisphere, easing past Winter Solstice on December 21st  may not seem like a milestone, but consider the increasing light that adds minutes to the days that follow, and the cumulative effects . . . .  The further north one resides, the more dramatic these effects . . . .

Think of the Winter Celebrations that occur in December, and the central theme of light.

Simply happenstance?

Like the twinkling of the stars on Christmas trees. The hopeful candles of Kwanzaa and Hanukkah. Celebratory fireworks and festivities on New Year’s Eve. Without the darkness, could we ascribe meaning to this season  with such a beautiful celebration of light?
