In the afternoon sun they huddle,
Glowing amber as October days,
Crisp to sunny,
Slip towards Winter.

Thriving in the vestiges of summer,
welcoming brilliance flaming,
Lighting up the autumn earth,
and tugging at our simple hearts.

Oh, for the love of pumpkins,
Always, each season,
Returning to us,
Like a favorite memory.

Note: this is a poem I wrote in the fall of 2010 that has rung true for me for much of my life.  The first day of October seems like the perfect day to celebrate the love of pumpkins. 🙂
