Today, at the end of the week, it seems appropriate to post a few triumphs that have resulted from sheer people power.
Joe Scarborough, in his no-nonsense way, blasted the administration for the firing of Sally Yates. It is great to see someone calling it like it is. Have I used the words “temper tantrum” before? Oh, yes. I think I did . . .
On Tuesday, the “Morning Joe” host said the White House’s statement that Yates had “betrayed the Department of Justice” was “deeply, deeply offensive.”
“To suggest that someone acting as a conscientious objector to a law that has divided this country, would be termed as someone who has quote ‘betrayed’ the Justice Department,” Scarborough said, “that is deeply, deeply offensive, first of all, but secondly it is frightening that the Trump Administration actually views dissent that way.”
“Using the word ‘betrayed’ for somebody is frightening. It’s what an autocrat would use, whoever put that word in there.”
Wow, Joe. Way to be incisive! Way to employ your critical thinking skills. Your empathy. Your outrage. Your bravery . . . For sure, I will be wanting to have coffee with you for those maneuvers . . . 🙂
And then, can we just give Nancy Pelosi a standing ovation for her suggestion that Trump have his mental health checked? I have had that concern for the duration of his campaign as he has seemed prone to rages, impulsivity, poor judgement . . . According to the Huffington Post:
A version of the idea was first put forward by Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. He told the Washington Post editorial board last week he wasn’t “talking about some of the rhetoric that’s flying around” about Trump, but, “If you’re going to have your hands on the nuclear codes, you should probably know what kind of mental state you’re in.”
Pelosi echoed that thought at her press briefing on Thursday. “I can’t wait until he introduces that legislation, to be able to join him as co-sponsor of that,” she said. “I think it’s a very good idea.”
Can I emphasize Rep. Jason Chaffetz’s quote, that little part about having access to nuclear codes and state of mental health . . . Being prone to rages and being impulsive does not mix well with the Button, with a big “B.” Seriously.
If you are feeling overwhelmed or disheartened definitely check out the Resistance Report to see just what sheer determination, people power, and showing up can do! Pretty AMAZING! Our voices MATTER!
Finally, I thought an Adam Ruins Everything was particularly relevant to the discourse about building a wall at the Mexican Border. Frankly and simply, this is a DUMB, INEFFECTIVE idea! (Did I just say ‘dumb?’ Omg, what has this world come to . . !) This not only will not keep people from coming into the US, it will not allow wildlife to migrate in its natural habitat. Check out Adam’s take on the Wall. You will be entertained for sure . . .
Hope you have a great weekend and see you next week!
