Speechless.  I.  am.  The DC Drama is becoming more darkly entertaining by the moment.  Key characters must be rich, narrow-minded, and ethically-compromised to be cast in this Emmy-winning thriller.  Apparently, Saturday Night Live’s portrayal of Betsy DeVos didn’t cut it with the Senate!  Not even the beautiful reference to the new campaign, Guns for Grizzlies (My words, not theirs!  MY words!)  Grrrrrrrr . . .

So, as I have been learning about DeVos, a few small items stand out.  Like, the tiny  detail that she has donated over $200 million dollars to Republican candidates . . . AND that she is the wife of Richard Devos who made his fortune from Amway, due to “multi-level marketing,” also referred to as a “pyramid scheme.”

AND that she likely has business conflicts of interest with her post.  AND that her ethics review was not complete before she went before the Senate . . .

Ethics schmethics . . .   now where’s that Nutrilite . . .

Neither DeVos, nor her children ever attended public schools.  DeVos implemented the voucher system in Michigan and the program has been deemed NOT effective.  But seriously, she truly cares about the future of all of America’s children . . .

Now granted, Grizzly Mike did get a little bit of extra exercise walking up to Capital Hill for the tie-breaker that made history.  I think the history-making part related to the exercise . . . And, like his friend Punxsutawney Phil, has confirmed that we will have four more years of chilling MINDNUMBING policies, but hey, what’s the worst that could happen to our ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND public schools?  Seriously.  No one is counting (on you, Betsy!)

So, you may be interested in a 1979 charade played by the Federal Trade Commission and Amway, about what makes a pyramid scheme “sound like” multi-level marketing.   The latter does sound better, right?  Sounds more legit, and more HONEST?  Here, it is not WHAT you say, but HOW you say it . . .

So, now, how can we convert schools to pyramid schemes with conservative values . . . Oh, WAIT, that has already been done in MICHIGAN!

There is a really good New Yorker article you should read if you are interested in learning about DeVos and her family’s connections and contributions to the Republican party.  I am pulling a quote from this article that I am sure will inspire a TON of confidence in you about DeVos’s priorities as Secretary of Education:

In 1997, she brashly explained her opposition to campaign-finance-reform measures that were aimed at cleaning up so-called “soft money,” a predecessor to today’s unlimited “dark money” election spending. “My family is the biggest contributor of soft money to the Republican National Committee,” she wrote in the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call. “I have decided to stop taking offense,” she wrote, “at the suggestion that we are buying influence. Now I simply concede the point. They are right. We do expect something in return. We expect to foster a conservative governing philosophy consisting of limited government and respect for traditional American virtues. We expect a return on our investment.”

Dark money.  Soft money.  Traditional virtues.  Tit for tat.  Ewwwwwwwwwwwww!  Where does that moral reasoning fit with Kohlberg’s Stages?  A negative nineteen fifty-three?

On the bright side, we have a new character for the DC Drama.  Her name is GrizzlyBet, and she is chewing gum and taking names . . .!  Now let’s see what we can do to BURST HER VOUCHER BUBBLE!

We are watching YOU, Betsy DeVos!  Keep YOUR pyramids out of OUR education system!  PYRIOD!

I am including a clip of Elizabeth Warren, (D) Massachusetts  questioning DeVos during her confirmation hearing.  Here are some additional clips if you would like to see more.

For today’s song of the day, I refer you to Monday’s song of the day, Pink Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall.  A nod to history repeating itself . . .

Now,  where’s that podium . . .
